 Discovering
our region is reaching-out to the people, the soil, and the flavours that create
the rare quality of the products you discover on your gourmet trail.
The
Lot, where long culinary traditions blend with the knowlege of its chefs, has
a high reputation for gastronomy. From
the simple inn at the farm to famous restaurants (the district is proud of its
Michelin-stars), they all propose an authentic cuisine elaborated from local products
of well-known origin and quality; you can share their passion for their trade.
| Let your desires
and your taste buds guide you. The Lot is a menu by itself:
Quercy melon
with delicate, sweet and flavourfull orange pulp; Foie gras (goose-liver), a sign
of refinement & art of life; duck confit with apples and ceps; farm-reared
lamb which melts in your mouth; truffle: the black diamond and its divine flavour.
In Lalbenque, from December to February, the Tuesday market attracts the
greatest connoisseurs. Walnut nut oil does wonders for a salad served with "cabécou",
a small cheese made from unskimmed goat's milk. Stamped AOC and sold under the
label "Rocamadour", it can be eaten firm or soft, according to one's
taste.
For dessert, the "pastis" pie will charm the taste buds
of any gourmet, with its translucent pastry stuffed with apples, syrup and plum
brandy. All these dishes are served with Cahors wine, caracterised by a shaded
colour and solid tannins, or with the charming wine of Glanes, a product from
the canton of Bretenoux, light but rich in flavours. |
